Remembering places through colours and feeling

When I look at my paintings, I am not just seeing images. I am reliving moments — the moods, the emotions, the quiet impressions that stayed with me long after I left a place. Colours, for me, have a way of whispering memories back. Through them, I am taken again to the landscapes that inspired my work.

Eye-level view of a colorful abstract painting by Anjali Kumar

A particular green brings back the density of forests, the way light filters through leaves and settles softly on the ground. Blues recall the stillness of lakes, where time seems to slow, and the mind finds space to wander. Warm yellows carry the memory of sunsets — the hush that arrives as the day draws to a close.

These colours do more than describe a place. They evoke how it felt to be there. The thrill of standing on a windy hilltop, the calm of a misty morning, the quiet pleasure of solitary walks through wooded paths. Each painting holds fragments of these experiences, gathered and layered through memory rather than detail.

Spring flowers hold a special place in my work. Their colours feel like nature’s own symphony — bursts of joy and quiet renewal. When I paint them, I am drawn into their energy, into a sense of lightness and possibility that lingers beyond the moment.

I do not try to document places as they are. I paint how they remain with me — not as scenes, but as feelings carried through colours and quiet balance.
